Understanding Psychologists and Therapy
Psychologists have specialist training in human behaviour and undergo a minimum of six years of rigorous education and training. This extensive training ensures they are well-equipped to address a wide range of personal and mental health issues. Psychologists are registered with the Psychology Board of Australia, guaranteeing high standards of practice and continuous professional development.
PAWS is set in a beautiful cottage set amongst a large landscaped green area. This setting was intentionally chosen for the peaceful setting and connection to nature that people can enjoy. Despite being easily accessible and equipped with parking, people can feel like they are away from the busyness of everyday life. Within the cottage that is thoughtfully designed to feel homely, there are many resources that are available for children and young people to select and that helps them engage in sessions. These resources include games, art and craft, blocks, Lego, jewellery making, and outdoor equipment. There are also options outdoors for parents to wait and enjoy relaxing under the shade on a swing chair, enjoying the tranquil setting or to entertain younger siblings with a game of catch. There is an outdoor deck and an outdoor secure area for more active children who prefer being outdoors. For adults there is a walking trail if they prefer being outdoors. PAWS is a unique setting that is perfectly designed for wellbeing.
Parents play a crucial role in their child's therapy process. They are often involved in the initial assessment to provide background information and context. Throughout the therapy, parents may be invited to participate in sessions, receive feedback, and learn strategies to support their child's progress at home. Regular communication between the psychologist and parents ensures a collaborative approach, enhancing the effectiveness of the treatment plan and fostering a supportive environment for the child.
